Old man winter is going to rear his ugly head in the Moose Jaw region not once...not twice...but three times over the next week.

The first weather system has already passed mostly through the province and has moved eastward to Manitoba. Earlier this week a low-pressure system came through the central portion of the province in the Kindersley area bringing with it 10 to 20 centimetres of snow.

Environment Canada says that the Moose Jaw area will be on a roller coaster ride over the next week with temperatures plummeting below zero starting on Saturday night, bringing with it some unwelcomed snow.

“We are tracking a second system that will track through on Saturday, but precipitation will mostly stay as rain on Saturday during the day, but as things cool down in the overnight period it will stick to snow again,” says Environment Canada Meteorologist, Danielle Desjardins.

Desjardins adds that these bone-chilling temperatures are the result of cold air being pushed down from the Arctic.

Friday and Saturday will be the warmest days before the cold snap begins. On Friday a high of 5 degrees is expected and then on Saturday, it will be a daytime high of eight degrees with a chance of rain.

The first weather system has already passed through the province and has moved eastward to Manitoba. Earlier this week as a low-pressure system came through the central portion of the province in the Kindersley area bringing with it 10 to 20 centimetres of snow.

Heading into next week, that’s when the third system will sweep through the Moose Jaw area.

“This will impact the southern prairies Monday through Wednesday, and that looks to be the most significant system that will bring a lot of snow and wind to the prairies.”

The forecast for Monday through Wednesday is looking to be a chance of snow and highs to be below zero, with the coldest day being Wednesday with an expected high of –11.

With these storms on the horizon, Desjardins wants residents to be prepared and stay up to date with the latest weather information.
