This Thursday at 7:30 pm, the Jones-Parkview Funeral Chapel is hosting its 22nd annual Mourning Star Service for everyone who is going through this holiday season dealing with the loss of a loved one and this year's theme is 'hope is a thing with feathers'.

Della Ferguson is a Funeral Celebrant and Grief Support at Jones-Parkview, she explains what the service is all about.

"On Thursday evening we welcome people into a really serene setting that's going to have candlelight, soft music, and memorial candles, and a space where people can really experience the feelings that they're going through of loss at this time where they seem extra strong, and extra poignant."

People who attend will receive a memorial ornament, light a memorial candle, and get to listen to live music.

Ferguson continued and explained why it's important to have this service this time of year.

"At Christmas time people find because there are so many rituals, so many traditions, and so many family gatherings that their loss is really amplified. The sense of missing their beloved to partake in all of those rituals, traditions, and family gatherings just leaves them feeling extra grief."

The service will take place at the Jones-Parkview Funeral Chapel at 474 Hochelaga St. W.

Ferguson added that this Sunday the Jones-Parkview Funeral Chapel is also hosting one of many Worldwide Candle Lighting for Bereaved Parents and their families at 7:00 pm.
