With this being National Fire Prevention Month, a blaze in the friendly city Sunday evening is serving as a reminder of how easily fires can start in your home.

Shortly before 5 pm yesterday, a fire started on the 1100 block of Main Street - just south of the fire hall.

Assistant Fire Chief with the Moose Jaw Fire Department, Rod Stapleton, says the fire was started by a candle left unattended.

"We believe it was caused by candles in the upstairs bathroom. There was extensive smoke damage to their second floor, approximately $100,000 damage.

With it being Fire Prevention week, its a good message to get out there that you don't leave candles

During fire prevention week, we're also being reminded to check our smoke detectors and make sure they're in working order, as well as develop an escape plan in case a fire should start.
