After a number of close calls, Moose Jaw’s Terry Bender finally broke through on the weekend.

The local racecar driver captured the Saskatchewan Pro-4 Modified Club’s season championship after Saturday’s race in Regina.

“I had it won back in 2010 and then I had health problems and lost out there, but got it done this year,” said Bender on Tuesday. “I’d been second a lot of years, but could never get into first place.”

After so many close calls, Bender wasn’t too worried going into this weekend as he looked to lock up the title, “I figured I had it looked after, but you never know. I would have had to have lost out in the first race this weekend to lose it," he said.

The race season consists for nine race days with three races per day.  Bender was able to put together a stellar season that saw him lead the points race for much of the year.

“I had my car working good this year, that’s a big part of it,” he said.

Racing pro-four modifieds has been a passion of Bender’s for a long time as he started out by attending the races before decided to jump into the driver’s seat.  “A car came up for sale, I bought and it went on from there, I enjoy it a lot,” he said.

Bender added that any donations or sponsorship he’s received over the years really helps him keep going.
