Following the horrific tragedy on the James Smith Cree Nation and in Weldon leaving 11 dead and 19 injured on Sunday, Moose Jaw's Mayor, Clive Tolley released a statement on behalf of himself and the city:

“The City of Moose Jaw is deeply saddened by the tragic events at James Smith Cree Nation this past weekend," says Mayor Tolley in a released statement on Tuesday. On behalf of the City Council and City employees, the City of Moose Jaw extends our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and offers our support to any person impacted by these senseless acts.”

On Sunday morning, the Melfort RCMP issued a dangerous persons alert after multiple stabbings on James Smith Cree Nation. One of the suspects Damien Sanderson was found deceased within the Cree Nation on Monday, near one of the crime scenes. The other suspect Myles Sanderson is still at large and has yet to be located. 

An alert was issued by the Melfort RCMP on Tuesday morning warning people in the area of James Creek First Nation to seek shelter immediately, or shelter in place, following reports of a possible sighting of Myles Sanderson.
