The Moose Jaw and District Food Bank are looking for help as shelves are starting to become empty.

Manager Terri Smith said the shortage isn't out of the ordinary, as people are typically busy during the summer months.

"This is the time of year when supplies start to go down. We're really noticing a big drop in items like cereal, cookies, crackers, juice, (and) canned ravioli. Those are the kind of things we're looking for. We are getting some garden produce (that's) trickling in, which is nice to make up for the things that we are short on".

She added the food bank currently has a comfortable supply of pasta, sauce and Kraft Dinner.

"I know some people might... think one or two cans of food might not be that much, but it's a whole lot to us. It's one or two cans (that) we didn't have before, and it's something we can add to somebody's hamper that can actually help them out."

Normally the summer months are slower for people needing assistance from the food bank, but Smith said this year's hampers going out to families in need have increased.

Along with food items the Food Bank also accepts monetary donations.

They are located at 305 Fairford Street West and you can drop food off from 9am until 2pm Monday to Friday.
