Coming off their first loss of the season on Friday in Swift Current, the Moose Jaw Midget Mustangs rolled to a dominating win on Monday night back on their home court.

The Mustangs galloped to a 14-1 win over the Weyburn Thrashers at Mosaic Place on Monday in the South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League.

"It feels great to get back out there and take a big win," said Kayde Shymko of the Mustangs after the game.

Moose Jaw lost 10-8 to the Rampage on Friday night, but they put together a strong performance at both ends of the floor on Monday to bounce back.

"We got our heads more into it and played more together as a team, got our passes down," said Shymko

Shymko opened the scoring for Moose Jaw just 1:26 into the gam and Atley Calvert put Moose Jaw in front 2-0 just over four minutes later, but that was all the offence for the Mustangs in the opening period as they held a 2-1 lead after one.

The Mustangs extended their lead to two when Ethan Johnson found the back of the net for his first game just under six minutes into the second.

The score stayed that way for the next ten minutes, but the Mustangs exploded late in the second period as they got goals from Calvert, Max Coulson and Kael Nichols to make it 6-1 after two.

Moose Jaw kept that offence rolling into the third and scored six goals in the 10:03 of the frame to pull away and eventually finish with the 14-1 win.

Calvert posted five goals and six points, while Johnson had a hat trick and five points for the Mustangs. Caelan Fitzpatrick added two goals and four points.

Bryden Kerr registered the win in goal for Moose Jaw.

Coming out of the win, Shymko said they’re coming together as a team, but still have a few areas to tighten up.

"We definitely need to work on our changes and shots, placing them right, and working together as a team, that's big thing, but we’re coming together," he said.

The Midget Mustangs are back on the court on Wednesday to host the Regina Rush at Mosaic Place. They square off at 7p.m.

Coming up on Tuesday night, the 2-1 Moose Jaw Chiefs travel to Weyburn to take on the Estevan Impact. They hit the floor at 8 p.m.
