The Moose Jaw Midget AA Warriors opened the scoring on Sunday, but it was all downhill after that in their season opener in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League.

The Warriors lost 8-1 to the Prairie Storm Lighting on Sunday at the Kinsmen Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Ben Peterson scored for Moose Jaw on the power play 4:36 into the second, but the Lightning exploded for eight unanswered goals after that.

Tyler Council and Tristan Brace had a goal and two points each, while Luke Schaeffer, Bryce Cockwill and Zach Cain finished with two assists each in the win for Prairie Storm.

Shay Barnett assisted on Peterson’s opening goal for Moose Jaw.

Austin Bourdeau took the loss in goal for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw will return to the ice on Thursday to host the Regina Rangers at the Bert Hunt Arena. Puck drops at 7:15 p.m.

The Peewee AA Warriors will kick-off their season when they travel to Yorkton to take on the Terriers on Friday and then they head to Melville on Saturday.

The Bantam AA Warriors will play their season opener on Saturday in Saskatoon against the Generals.
