Ron Robison was apparently very frank when it came to a meeting with Moose Jaw City officials to talk about the future of the Warriors and the Civic Centre.

Western Hockey League Commissioner Ron Robison met with some of our community leaders this past weekend for a facilities update. Robison has made it clear that the Moose Jaw Civic Centre does not meet minimum WHL standards.

The league is demanding upgrades or a new facility.

City councillor Mary Dell Findlay says the discussion was very frank. Robison made it clear there are other cities that would build a new facility and welcome the Warriors franchise. "We have to make the renovations to the Civic Centre and upgrade it or we have to build a new facility. Those are our two options and that's where we stand right now. We have to make a decision and we have to make it quickly."

Findlay still supports the construction of a new multiplex but says we need a guarantee for federal funding before it moves forward.

Councillor Dawn Luhning echoed Findlay's comments and said the point was hammered home, the current Civic Centre is not an option.

Luhning also spoke about the future of the Warriors in Moose Jaw and the fact we could lose the team to another city if nothing is done. "There's absolutely no doubt in my mind... that we have to keep the Warriors in Moose Jaw. They're a big part of the community and I know I'm going to do as much as I can to ensure that they stay here and that they have the facility that they need to be a viable franchise in the long run."
