The Moose Jaw Mallards had a great weekend in Swift Current, but fell just short in the end.

The Mallards finished in second place at the Swift Current Bantam AA Tournament, falling 4-2 to the host 57s in the final on Sunday afternoon.

Moose Jaw held a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh inning, but Swift Current rallied to score three in the final frame and steal away the tournament title.

The Mallards opened the tournament with a 6-5 loss to Humboldt on Friday night, but they bounced back on Saturday with a 12-8 win over Saskatoon and a 14-13 victory over Swift Current.

They would avenge their loss to Humboldt in the semifinals, scoring a 5-3 win to book their spot in the final.

The Mallards will return to the field on Thursday for an exhibition game against Swift Current at Swarbrick Diamond. They also face the Regina White Sox in an exhibition game next Tuesday before provincials that weekend.

Canucks Return to Win Column

The Moose Jaw Canucks are in the stretch drive of the season and they found some momentum with a 9-6 win over the Regina White Sox in the Queen City on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Zerff threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs — four earned — on four hits and six walks. He struck out five in the win.

Jeremy Kohl had a strong game at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, while Zerff, Chayce Vanthuyne, Riley Gross and Keian Klein also picked up an RBI each in the win.

The Canucks trailed 1-0 after two innings, but they put up a crooked number in the third, scoring four times to move in front. They added two more runs in the fifth and three in the seventh for the win.

The White Sox fought back with four runs in the seventh inning, but Gross came on for the Canucks to shut the door, getting the final two outs.

The Canucks are now 8-10-1 on the year in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League’s Midget AA Division.

They return to the field on Wednesday in Lumsden.

Regals Top Reds Sunday

The Moose Jaw Regals prevailed, 14-13, in a back-and-forth game against the Regina Reds on Sunday in the Regina Optimist Junior Baseball League.

The Regals exploded for ten runs in the first inning, which included Jordan Logan and Travis Petersen both coming around to score twice in the frame.

Logan hit an RBI-triple in the second inning as Moose Jaw extended its lead to 12-1, but the Reds answered in the bottom half of the frame with seven runs of their own to make it a 12-8 game after two.

The Regals were held in check after that until the sixth and seventh innings when they added one run in each frame. That was some much needed cushion as Regina scored one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the seventh to get within one.

Logan finished 1-for-2 with three walks, two stolen bases, a triple and an RBI out of the lead-off spot.

Petersen was 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base.

Chris Cooper started the game for the Regals and allowed eight runs on six hits and three walks over two innings. Tanner Fritzke came on and pitched the next five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

The Regals are back on the field on Wednesday to host the Reds for a rematch at Ross Wells Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
