After three days of games in the sun, the Regina Brewers prevailed as the 2018 SBA Twilite Maxi Provincial Champions.

The Brewers beat the defending champion Saskatoon Athletics, 8-2, in the 'A' final on Sunday afternoon at Ross Wells Park.

"It feels good, there was good weather all weekend, so that keeps everyone limper and playing well and it turned out to be a good weekend," said Colin Bach with the Brewers.

The Brewers went undefeated, beating the Riverhurst Thumpers, 7-0, on Friday morning and then picking up a 6-1 win over the Estevan Drillers in the afternoon.

Regina then won three straight over Saturday and Sunday in the playoff round to capture the title.

"We only had 12 players, everybody on our team has known each other for the last 10-15 years, everybody is friends, so it makes for a fun weekend when you get to play with your friends," said Bach.

"This was the first year that we’ve ever been in the tournament, so hopefully there will be many more titles in the future."

The temperatures hit over 40 degrees with the humidity during the tournament, but Bach said they did a good job of managing the heat to play well throughout the weekend.

"Friday and Saturday during the day it was hot, but we managed it pretty well," he said. "We drank a lot of water and stayed out of the sun as much as we could."

The Moose Jaw Cardinals dropped their opening game, 8-7, to the South East River Rats on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park, but they rebounded with a 5-3 win over the Macklin Lakers on Saturday morning to finish off the round robin.

The Moose Jaw Athletics scored a 15-4 win over the Watrous Lakers in their opening game on Friday afternoon and then they fell 8-2 to the Vibank Athletics on Saturday morning.

The tournament saw 30 teams suit up in the Friendly City over the course of four days.
