The Moose Jaw Mallards shook off their season-opening loss on Tuesday fairly quickly as they scored an 8-5 win over the Regina Blue Jays on Thursday night in the Baseball Regina Bantam AA League.

The Mallards’ pitchers combined to throw 19 strikeouts in the game. Rylan Watson started and went three innings, followed by Evan Callaghan, who worked the next three innings and then Cam O’Reilly came in to finish off the win in the seventh.

After struggling to get the offence going on Tuesday, the Mallards had the bats working right from the start in Thursday’s win as they led the whole game.

Jeremy Kohl went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and one run scored, while Watson and Sam Caplette each smacked a triple, drove in a run and scored a run.

Cole Breitkreuz also had a triple in the win.

The Mallards will be back on the field this weekend when they travel to Yorkton for a doubleheader on Sunday.
