Karen Andersen Tyers has a goal of becoming the first female mayor for the City of Moose Jaw. After Glenn Hagel launched his campaign Friday morning, Tyers confirmed to our newsroom that she is planning to file her paperwork for mayor by the middle of the month.

Tyers and her husband are the managers of Joe's Locksmith in downtown Moose Jaw who recently moved the store after their building was demolished to make room for the Multiplex. Tyers joins Ernie Penney and Glenn Hagel as the only candidates for mayor so far.

The last woman to run for mayor was Mona Selanders in 1991, before that Jane Roe ran for mayor in 1988 and in 1982 Marge Gudmundson, the woman that helped start the Mac the Moose project, ran for mayor.
