Jason Maas was introduced as the new offensive co-ordinator of the Saskatchewan Roughriders at a media conference today.

Maas is excited to be in this role in Saskatchewan.

“I think it would be a shame for any coach to not get the opportunity to coach in Sask at some point, or a player to play in this place,” said Maas. “They do it the right way, and they’ve got great people. That’s important to me. Family and people, and being around the right people is important.”

Maas was introduced at a media conference in Regina earlier today by head coach Craig Dickenson. Dickenson said he has admired the offences run by Maas in the past.

“From afar, when you watch his offence, they seem to always be well-prepared and he does a great job of utilizing personnel, and that’s something we wanted to look into in terms of utilizing all 46 guys you’ve got on the roster,” said Dickenson. “I feel like Jason does as good a job as anybody in the league at that.”

Maas replaces Stephen McAdoo in the role.

Maas was the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos for the past four seasons, accumulating a 39-33 record in the regular season and 3-3 in the playoffs. He worked his way up the coaching ladder, starting as a receivers coach in 2011 with the Toronto Argonauts and then the quarterbacks coach when they won the 2012 Grey Cup, and was the offensive co-ordinator with Ottawa when he took the head coaching job in Edmonton.

The Roughriders also announced that they've extended the contract of defensive co-ordinator Jason Shivers. Last year was his first as co-ordinator.
