Suicide can be a tough topic to approach. Often the best way to handle things of this nature is to discuss them and create more awareness.

The Canadian Mental Health Association has teamed up with Nebulus Entertainment to create something special for World Suicide Prevention Day.

Donna Bowyer is with the Canadian Mental Health Association, and she discussed why they wanted to do something so unique.

"It's our 100th anniversary for the Canadian Mental Health Association, and we got together with Journey to Hope, and we wanted to do something that would last longer than just the one year. And so what we decided was that we wanted to have a song."

When Bowyer had asked Jared Robinson, the owner of Nebulus Entertainment, he already had an idea of who he would like on the track.

Nicholas Hennink is a local paramedic and artist. Robinson saw him as the best option since Hennink is so passionate about bringing more awareness to mental health, releasing a song earlier this year about first responders and some of their struggles with mental health. He and Robinson came together to compose and perform the song Darkest Hour.

"Basically it's four stories - four glimpses into peoples lives - showing the struggle that they go through," Hennink explained. "The essence behind the song is that we need to be kind always, that you never know when someone is struggling in their lives, and reach out because you never know who you can help."

Hennink released his song Monday for the day, and it can be downloaded digitally and can be found on his Facebook page.

World Suicide Prevention Day is on September 10th every year.
