13-year-old Cadet Lincoln Seabrook of 1856 Moose Jaw Schools, Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, in Moose Jaw, had the opportunity to fire an air rifle for the first time.

Cadet Seabrook shot the rifle on a range at Camp Saskadet near Kelvington, Saskatchewan on July 28th.

Seabrook says his experience shooting the rifle was "really awesome" and he had lots of fun at the camp.

"We were there at Saskadets for about five days... We got to do lots. I met such amazing people there, the staff was really nice. Over all it was fun," says Seabrook.

He says that he joined the cadets when he was 12-years-old and he joined because he thought learning about the military would be an excellent experience.

The camp was a part of the Cadet Activity program. Which is one of many activities available to youth at local, regional, and national levels in the Cadet Program year-round.

The Cadet Program is open to all youth between the ages of 12-18 years old.

The program develops confident, self-sufficient leaders who form lasting friendships and are engaged in their communities.

There are three divisions of the cadets. Army Cadets focus on physical activity and the outdoors. Sea cadets also learn about seamanship, sailing, and traditions of the Royal Canadian Navy. Air Cadets also learn about aviation technologies, air crew survival, and how to fly.

Anyone looking to join the cadets is welcome to do so at any time during the training year between September and May.

Adults are also needed to help train, administer, and supervise the local youth involved in the Cadet Program. No previous military or cadet experience is needed.
