Brett Howden wasted no time scoring his first NHL goal as he found the back of the net for the New York Rangers in their 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

In just his second NHL game, Howden scored with 4:39 to go in the third period to break-up the shutout for Sabres goalie Carter Hutton.

"It's pretty crazy, it's obviously a real special moment, I thought we played a great game too, but it's just nice to get that one," Howden told Rangers TV after the game.

The former Moose Jaw Warriors captain saw 12:31 of ice time in the game, an almost two-minute increase from his NHL debut in the season opener on Thursday. He fired three shots on goal in the game.

Howden is in his first season with the Rangers after playing 248 games with the Warriors over the past four seasons, posting 109 goals and 267 points.

The Rangers are 0-2-0 this season. They return to the ice on Sunday against the Hurricanes in Carolina at 3 p.m.

Another former Warrior found the scoresheet in the NHL on Saturday, as Morgan Rielly had a goal and two points for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it wasn't enough as they lost 5-3 to the Ottawa Senators.
