The effort and chances were there for the Moose Jaw Generals in both games over the weekend, but they ended up walking away with a split on the road against the Battlefords Stars.

The Generals opened the weekend with a 4-3 win over the Stars on Saturday and then dropped a 4-1 game on Sunday in North Battleford, putting their record at 6-4-0-0 this season.

"We worked hard all weekend, but it just didn’t seem like bounces were going our way, but I liked the effort," said Generals head coach Ray Wareham. "I thought on Sunday, we could have worked a little smarter, but the effort was definitely there."

Moose Jaw was able to control a lot of the play over the two games against the Stars, outshooting them by 10 shots in both contests, 35-25 on Saturday and 37-27 on Sunday.

Wareham said that the Generals were going to the net and creating chances, but didn’t have much luck finding the back of the net consistently.

"We’ve been focusing in practice on getting pucks to the net and getting to the net, which is sometimes a challenge for us, we’re not the biggest team, so some of our smaller guys have to find different ways to get there, but they’re doing a good job, we used our speed to our advantage, we were able to get pucks to the net and we had chances," said Wareham.

The Generals come out of the week with four out of six points after beating the Saskatoon Blazers last Thursday. Wareham said the Generals have been able to put together a strong stretch of games.

"We’ve been real happy with our effort and if we continue that, we like our chances," he said.

The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period of Saturday’s game, but Steven Kesslering and Cody Davis scored in the second to help Moose Jaw cut the lead down to one going into the third.

Brendan Kemp and Casey McDonald would score for the Generals, only 1:42 apart, in the third period to secure the win.

Goalie Reece Hodson turned away 22 shots in the victory.

On Sunday, the Stars again jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals at the start and end of the first period, but this time, the Generals didn’t battle back until the third.

Jaxson Georget had the lone goal for Moose Jaw on the power play midway through the final frame, but the Stars came right back only 40 seconds later to reclaim the two-goal lead and seal the win.

Wareham said it was nice to see Georget get rewarded for some hard work with his first goal of the season, "He’s been getting better every game," he said. "You can see he’s starting to find it, it was maybe a bit of a slow start for him, but never for a lack of effort with him that’s for sure and if we can get him going that only bodes well for us in the future."

Jaxson Taupert stopped 23-of-26 shots in the loss.

The Generals are back on the ice on Friday to take on the Legionnaires in Swift Current. They will host the Notre Dame Hounds on Sunday at Mosaic Place.
