Moose Jaw residents looking to finally get rid of their yard waste free of charge can do so on Nov. 5-6, as the City of Moose Jaw, is hosting their semi-annual “Free Yard Waste Weekend”.

“Residents can bring out those leaves, grass clippings, anything that has accumulated over the fall season, small branches, as we don’t want any lumber, but small pruning branches, 1 inch in diametre or smaller preferably,” says Utilities Supervisor for Environmental Services, Jesse Watamanuk.

Those looking to utilize the Free Yard Waste Weekend can take it to the City of Moose Jaw Landfill, which is located at 1802 Caribou St E.

Watamanuk asks those that are bringing their organic yard waste to the landfill to try and use transparent bags to allow for an easier inspection to determine where it will go in the landfill. The landfill will be littered with signage to allow for each access to the area where residents will dispose of their yard waste.

He did want to remind residents of some waste that will not be accepted if brought to the landfill.

“We don’t construction materials such as large lumber or furniture, and any big appliances. Regular landfill rates will apply to regular household waste, and will be charged out.”

Residents bringing their waste to the landfill are reminded to use tarps and to make sure to secure their load, to prevent debris from flying out of vehicles.
