Moose Jaw will be sending four teams to the SHSAA soccer provincial championship after a strong showing at regionals on the weekend.

The Vanier Spirits won 2-0 in overtime against the Central Cyclones in the 2A girls regional final on Saturday.

Vanier’s Ava Viczko scored both goals in extra time for the win.

"We knew we had to win, so we put it all out there, there was nothing really to lose, so we risk it and it turned out good," said Viczko after the victory.

The Spirits rolled to a 10-0 win over the Estevan Elecs, while the Cyclones shutout the Peacock Tornadoes, 1-0, in Friday’s semifinals to punch their tickets to provincials.

Viczko said they’re excited to get a chance to compete at provincials, "It’s what we were going for, so it’s pretty good to win," he said.

"We’re looking forward to playing some of the best teams in the province, it will be good for us to see how the other teams play, so it will be good."

The Cyclones walked away with the 2A boys' regional championship on Saturday with an 8-1 win over the Peacock Tornadoes in the final.

Nick Butterfield and Fharis Ebet had a hat trick each for Central in Saturday’s final.

Both teams will also be off to provincials after Peacock shutout LCBI/Outlook, 4-0, in the semifinals on Friday and Central topped the Vanier Vikings, 7-1.

The 2A boys' provincial championship will be played in North Battleford and the 2A girls' provincial championship will go in Balgonie next weekend.
