Flirting With Fido opened up its new adoption centre in the Town ‘N’ Country Mall over the weekend for potential adopters looking to fetch that perfect canine.

The adoption centre is branching off from the private non-profit dog rescue’s current operations.

Founder Tara Richmond said the centre is going to be open on weekends for now until they can find more volunteers.

“Right now, this is just kind of a soft opening, so we were just kind of getting things going. Then from here, we'll kind of reach out and have volunteers apply and then once we know how many volunteers we have, we'll be able to make our hours more firm,” Richmond said.

Flirting With Fido takes in rescue dogs, many that come from Northern Saskatchewan, and place them in foster homes. After two weeks in foster care, the dogs become available for adoption.

Richmond said the aim of the adoption centre is to make the adoptable dogs more readily available to meet with those looking to adopt.

“So, it's similar to the concept of a pet store, but more the idea that they're all rescued and people have to fill out applications. The dogs won't be staying here like to live overnight or anything like that. They'll be in foster homes and then the fosters bring them in here to meet potential adopters,” she said.
