The first major contract for SaskPower's Great Plains Power Station to be built here in Moose Jaw has been awarded.

SaskPower and developer Burns & McDonnell announced that Allan Ventures and Development and Allan Construction from Saskatoon have received the contract to start site preparation and install foundations and underground pipes.

Site preparation is expected to begin this spring and construction of the plant is expected to get underway in 2022. The 350-Megawatt plant is scheduled to go on-line in 2024.

The construction of the plant is expected to employ about 230 workers each year and over 500 workers during the construction's peak.
