Work is in full swing in local school divisions as we countdown the days to the school bell ringing once again. There's just a couple of weeks left until classes resume for students around Moose Jaw with our two local divisions putting in a lot of effort to get things ready.

Maintenance, repairs and upgrading to infrastructure are best done during the summer so the work doesn't interfere with class time according to Tony Baldwin, Director of Education for the Prairie South School Division

"August is quite busy as we get ready for the new year,' said Baldwin. "It's a busy time and we're excited to have kids and staff back in the buildings."

Baldwin says they have two significant projects going on right now including some paving work at Central Collegiate and $2.5 million in heating, ventilation and air conditioning work taking place at Peacock Collegiate.

Over in the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division, their new Director of Education is Sean Chase who agrees that August is very busy for them.

"We're kind of into those preliminary planning stages for major events, the first week back for staff prior to students getting here," said Chase. "it's a critical planning time and we get together for Mass and celebrate our faith in the school division as a Catholic school division and then there's the essential professional development opportunities for our staff."

Both Divisions have students returning to the classroom after the Labour Day long weekend this year.
