There were two fatal collisions on Saskatchewan highways on the weekend, both happening Friday evening.

Around 4:00 p.m., officers from the White Butte RCMP detachment responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. It occurred on Highway 1 at the overpass just west of Regina.

Passersby had attempted life-saving measures on the 40-year-old man who had been driving the motorcycle, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Paramedics declared the driver had died at the scene when they arrived.

The initial investigation by the RCMP shows the motorcycle had left the roadway, entered the ditch on the west side, and then rolled.

At roughly the same time, the Canora RCMP were called to a single-vehicle collision on a grid road off of Highway 9 near Endeavour.

Witnesses stated they had seen the vehicle in the ditch, with smoke coming from it. The vehicle appeared to have left the road and entered a culvert.

The 60-year-old man behind the wheel was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and passersby removed him from the vehicle and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, the efforts were not successful as he was declared deceased at the scene.

The investigations into both collisions are still underway.
