Dropping to a bone-chilling -37 with the windchill on Friday, January 10th, Moose Jaw and area has been in the deep freeze for a few days now, which brings the risk of frostbite with it.

There should be extra emphasis on bundling up if you have to venture outside, with multiple layers being the best way to stay warm.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Terri Lang, says we will get away from the cold for a few days, but it's going to come back.

"We are expecting another weather system to move through this weekend. It's going to warm temperatures up slightly but it's going to bring more snow and blowing snow so people who are going to be out and about on the weekend should be checking the highway hotline, and checking the weather forecast before heading out. We always recommend that people have that emergency kit, winter gear, and always check the highway hotline before heading out."

"It's actually the warm air in between the layers of clothing that actually keeps you warm. You always hear 'dress in layers' and there is a good reason for that. Make sure that skin is covered up and don't stay outside if you don't need to for any amount of time and try to stay active and dry. If you're out for too long there's that risk for hypothermia as well."

Symptoms of frostbite are at first prickly and cold skin, then numbness, hard or waxy-looking skin, clumsiness due to stiff joints or muscles, or blistering after rewarming in severe cases.
