The Downtown Facility and Field House Board, currently under investigation, is no more. The board was dissolved Wednesday afternoon at a special meeting of city council.

Councilor Brian Swanson was not in attendance and as soon as the meeting started Councillor Crystal Froese excused herself as the meeting was to deal with the DFFH investigation. However, Councillor Scott McMann stayed and asked some very pointed questions including why the matter was being handled in this manner, saying board members, staff and citizens are being kept in the dark. He then called the entire matter a miscarriage of justice before excusing himself, as he is also a board member.

Councillor Dawn Luhning then made a motion to dissolve the board and install City Manager Jim Puffalt as the new person in charge while also conducting his investigation into what is only being described as "staff issues" at the DFFH.

Councillor Chris Warren seconded the motion allowing the remaining three elected officials to continue with the meeting. Luhning then took a moment to address one of McMann's concerns saying dissolving the board is the only way for the investigation to be conducted properly.

From start to finish, the meeting took eight minutes with Warren, Luhning and Mayor Fraser Tolmie giving unanimous approval to dissolving the board, a decision Tolmie said was not taken lightly.

"The board had to be dissolved due to the potential conflict of interest and perceived influence on a current DFFH personnel investigation," said Mayor Tolmie.
