This past city council meeting covered a lot of subjects, but the highlight of the night was handing out this year's 2018 Beautification awards.

Each year the city of Moose Jaw's Parks and Recreation Department accept nominations for residents greenery they have near or around their homes, which are filed into various categories.

Some of the winners include Sherry Lynds winning Best Commercial Property, Sam and Violet Dzurka winning the best Environmentally Conscious property, and Douglas and Eleanor Snyder winning best residential edible garden.

Eleanor was pleased to hear the news and detailed all that she currently has planted in her garden.

"Zucchinis, Spaghetti squash, purple beans, tomatoes-Romas, and Manitoba, cucumbers, red potatoes, and I have some eggplant and two cabbages."

She added that she still isn't sure who was behind her receiving the Best Edible Garden of 2018 in the friendly city, but wants the person to know she appreciated being thought of.

"Oh I'll just thank whoever nominate me because now I get another rain barrel and composting bin, that was my prize."

Other winners that received the honour were Gwen and David Venn won best Residential Property, Deana Kempel won the best Residential Planters and/or Balcony.

The City of Moose Jaw would like to thank everyone who entered for their efforts in improving our community.
