Hearts continue to shatter almost a week later, following a devastating crash last weekend, after learning of yet another death.

The total number of fatalities increased to 16 on Wednesday afternoon when the Humboldt Broncos Trainer died due to her injuries in a Saskatoon hospital.

The collision happened Friday evening when a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos hockey team and staff collided with a tractor trailer on their way to a playoff game.

Dayna Brons "passed away peacefully" according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority, "surrounded by those who loved her".

“Dayna’s family would like to thank the first responders, emergency staff, and all those who have cared for Dayna over these last few days for their support,” the release said.  “And, they would like to thank everyone across Saskatchewan and Canada for their love and prayers during this very difficult time.”

Brons was one of four people who were considered to be in critical care after the collision according the the health authority.

According to RCMP her family is asking that communities and media respect their privacy at this time.

The RCMP also sent out a statement on Wednesday reminding everyone that they're doing their best to provide updates. However, with a case like this the investigation will take time and require patience as they gather more needed information.

Immediately following the crash, officers said they were looking at all factors including weather, mechanical issues or a problem with the drivers. They are also trying to recover vehicle computer data to help with their reconstruction efforts.
