With a busy first month already planned, the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre plans to have a successful and busy 2019.

Burton Cummings closed out the previous year on a high note for the Mae Wilson. With two sold-out shows and an entertained audience, they hope to continue that same kind of feeling into the new year.

Cummings was one of the larger artists they could bring into the theatre. As there are only 400 seats available, it's much harder for the Mae Wilson to book bigger names. Their goal is to find out who's "up and coming" and going to be the next big thing and get them early.

One example would be when The Candian Tenors performed at the Cultural Centre. They were able to book The Tenors and they put on an amazing show, but now there isn't a chance they could get them back because of their popularity.

He added they just have to take the opportunities and small risks associated with bringing in some Canadian artists they think will go big.

"One of things that we've been doing this past year and going forward into 2019 is looking at bringing artists from Canada that may not be a household names, but are definitely worth seeing and that people should get out and go see, and we're trying to keep the price as reasonable as possible for these shows," Cultural Centre General Manager Derik Cronin explained.

To kick off the year, they have four events planned to take over the main stage. It starts with the Festival of Words Cineview, then they have performances from Erin Costelo, Sarah MacDougall, and Brenda Lee Cottrell and The Legends. You can see dates, times, and info on their calendar of events page online.

"One other thing that we are looking forward to in 2019 is we've had a lot of Country artists that have approached us recently, and some of them are much larger names than we would expect to be bringing to Moose Jaw. And some of them are lesser known Country artists that have toured with bigger artists across Canada in 2018," Cronin added. "So we do have some great shows that are planned."

Most recently, the Cultural Centre announced that Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Michelle Wright will be making her way to the Friendly City with a show this March. There will be more artists announced this year with shows coming in late 2019 and early 2020.
