It's Throwback Thursday - just a minute to remember the good ol' days.

The Moose Jaw Warriors are playing the Winterhawks in Portland this weekend to get the WHL championship final underway at the old Veteran's Memorial Coliseum which opened in 1960. It's a fabulous place with a capacity of over 10,000 for hockey.

I called a number of Warriors games on the radio in that venue including a most memorable game on New Year's Eve,1988.

The place was completely sold out and during the 2nd period the fans started "the wave". It was spectacular - so much energy.

As play continued, one of the Warriors' rookies was standing, spinning around on the spot, on the bench, watching the wave.

Coach Lorne Molleken had a brief exchange with that kid and he didn't play another shift.

After the game, I asked Molleken what he said to that boy.

"I asked him if he was enjoying the game," Molleken said.

The player said, "Yes!"

And Molleken said, "That's great, Go take a seat at the end of the bench and enjoy the rest of it from there."

True story.
