So, a friend of a friend was so angry last night he burned his Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. He literally burned it up. This, after the Leafs blew a 3-1 series lead and lost game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens 3-1. It was, is, what they call an upset. The Leafs finished 1st in the division. They were supposed to win. Leafs fans are calling for heads to roll while Habs fans are ridiculing them and enjoying it. We take our hockey pretty seriously in this country, don't we? We're all experts. You know, it's different south of the border in the United States of America. Most American hockey fans attend games to have fun. Oh, they pull for their team, and they scream at the officials but then they laugh, and they eat, and they drink. They attend games to be entertained. And that is where I think many of us miss the mark in Canada. We take the game too seriously. I believe management teams, coaching staffs and most professional players lose sight of the fact they work in the entertainment industry and many of us get so wrapped up in the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat that we forget to enjoy the game.
