I never thought I'd see the day that Canada Day would be controversial but, here we are.

A growing number of people across our country have been calling for a cancelation of Canada Day celebrations in recognition of the recent discovery of hundreds of unmarked graves at residential school sites in our country.

I'd like to say I understand but I don't, really.  Nobody in my family was ever taken away and forced to attend a residential school.  Nobody in my family was buried in an unmarked grave.

751 of those unmarked grave sites have been found right here at home on the Cowessess First Nation and that's where we've been getting what I believe to be a perspective we can all relate to.

Cowessess Chief Cadmus Delorme said, and I quote, "We all inherited this.  Nobody today created residential schools.  Nobody today created the Indian Act.  Nobody today created the 60s scoop.  We all inherited it and we have to acknowledge that people are healing, and people are hurting.  Let's do something about it."
