The federal government is expecting to run a $154.7 billion deficit in 2021, bringing the national debt to $1 trillion. 

The budget includes over $100 billion in spending over the next three years towards child care, job creation and the COVID-19 pandemic recovery. 

The federal government is expected to spend $30 billion over the next five years for child care with the goal of bringing the average rate for a licensed child care facility to $10 per day by 2026. 

Meanwhile, the Liberal government will be extending COVID-19 pandemic supports with the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, the Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy, and Lockdown Support being extended to Sept. 25. 

Programs for small and medium-sized businesses include the new Canada Digital Adoption Program to help over 160,000 businesses with new technology costs and train 28,000 Canadians. 

There is $1 billion earmarked to help tourism businesses recover and to support festivals and cultural events. 

The federal government will be putting $2.5 billion as well as reallocating $1.3 billion of existing funds to build, repair and support 35,000 affordable housing units for vulnerable Canadians. 

A new Canada Recovery Hiring Program will run from June to November. It will give $595 million to help businesses hire back laid-off workers or to bring in new workers.
