Six unanswered goals from Team Canada powered them to a 6-2 win over the Czech Republic at the 2019 IIHF Under-18 World Championship on Tuesday.

Moose Jaw Warriors Brayden Tracey and Daemon Hunt were held off the scoresheet in the win, which clinched first place in Group A with a 4-0 record in the round robin.

Ondrej Volrab and Marcel Barinka scored two early goals for the Czech Republic to give them a quick 2-0 lead.

Victoria Grizzlies forward Alex Newhook got Canada on the board midway through the first.

Okotoks Oilers forward Dylan Holloway scored just 1:48 into the second period and then he set up Niagara IceDogs forward Philip Tomasino for the go-ahead goal for Canada with 4:48 left in the second.

Canada put the game away with three goals during a span of 1:06 in the third period. Baie-Comeau forward Nathan Légaré made it 4-2 just 1:51 into the third, Sarnia forward Jamieson Rees followed that up just 1:46 later, and Team Canada captain Peyton Krebs put Canada up 6-2 only 1:20 after that.

Saskatoon Blades goalie Nolan Maier made 23 saves in the win for Canada, while the Canadians outshot the Czechs, 58-25.

Tracey, Hunt and Team Canada will now meet Latvia in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. 

Warriors forward Yegor Buyalski and Belarus will face-off with Russia in the quarterfinal at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. The other two quarterfinals will see Switzerland take on Slovakia and Finland battling the United States.
