It's the weekend we've all been looking forward to, as Canada celebrates 151 years this weekend and it's important to note that setting off fireworks within the city of Moose Jaw is strictly prohibited and a fire hazard.

Paradise Fireworks are set to have their show at Hamilton Flatts tonight, and those are the only fireworks allowed to go off in the city.

If you have worries about the actual Canada Day firework show for the city, Fire Chief Rod Montgomery says you can put those to rest.

"The professional companies are very good at setting up their barriers and the fallout zone so those areas are usually set up by passive barriers and then the people working the fireworks will make sure that nobody goes in those area," Chief Montgomery said. "We want everybody to have a safe and happy long weekend so be safe out there."

Those who want to use fireworks and live in the country, contact your RM and make sure you're allowed to. If you haven't, its strictly prohibited.

If you do use them, make sure you have a method to extinguish them and make sure you are handling them safely by following the procedures that are outlined on the packaging, and make sure to be safe.

In any situation, Montgomery recommends keeping the pets at home, as the fireworks noise and light could cause unwanted stress.

"The citizens of Moose Jaw, and that's who we're reporting to here, you're not allowed to shoot off fireworks so don't do it please, thank you very much."
