With basketball season in the rearview mirror, the focus for high school athletes now shifts to the badminton court.

The first senior and junior league nights of the season went on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Peacock Collegiate.

In senior action on Tuesday, Central had athletes finish in the top-three in all five categories.

The Cyclones' Alex Yee and Dream Perez took top spot in the mixed doubles division, while the next two spots were also occupied by Central teams with Brendan Jesse and Ashlyn Jesse in second and Ahalagi Dukuly and Sydney Booth in third.

Liam Kerr and Carter Voth also took top spot in the boys doubles division, topping Cornestone's Riley Dombowsky and John Ferris in second and Vanier's Logan Hauser and Cooper Cole in third.

In the girls doubles division, Peacock's Allison Billy and Chantal Usher claimed first place, while Central's Shay Ziegler and Selena Huynh were second and Alexia Aikman and Skylar Ackerman took third.

Cornerstone's Rung Thai won the girls singles division edging out Vanier's Meisie Chamberlain in second and Central's Katie Coulson in third.

In the boys singles division, Micah Simrose of Mortlach captured fist place over Central’s Spencer Newans in second and Joel Godard from Cornerstone in third.

The junior league took to the court on Wednesday night.

After finishing third in senior action on Tuesday, Cornerstone's Joel Godard claimed top spot in the boys singles division on Wednesday in junior action. Central's Austin Lin was second and teammate Mikkel Hrecha was third.

Vanier's Mykayla Fysh secured top spot in the girls singles division, while Mew Ruang from Cornerstone was second and Peacock's Samantha Swalm was third.

In girls doubles, Peacock's Serena Schlamp and Caitlin Miller picked up a first place finish, while fellow Peacock duo of Anna Maelde and Caitlyn Johnson finished in second and Central's Rydleigh Dennison and Jenna Murdock took third.

Cornerstone's John Ferris and Zach Beital were first in the boys doubles division. Amara Kamara and Ehteina from Central came in second, while Caleb Kaminski and Javan Atkins from Cornerstone were third.

In mixed doubles, Vera Gauvin and Tom Naranbaater from Central were first and fellow Central team of Ashley Hughes and Redd Perez took second place.
