2014 is expected to be a good year for the hog sector in Saskachewan.

Lower feed grain prices and improvement in the market price are playing a key roll in the turnaround.

"People are optomistic and if they wanted to hedge in prices they could probably lock in around 20 and 25  dollars profit per head right now." Said Neil Ketilson, General Manager of Sask Pork.

Feed costs per market animal are around $90 at this time compared to last year when producers were paying around $125 per head.

Ketilson adds people are optomistic after some very challenging years for the hog industry.
