The Ministry of Highways have once again postponed the winter weight allowances in Saskatchewan due to an unseasonably warm November.

The target date to allow heavier loads to travel on provincial highways is now December 15th.

Earlier this month, it had been extended to December 1st from November 15th by the Ministry of Highways.

"As soon as it's practical to do so, we'll implement winter weights so people can take advantage of the heavier weights it affords," explains Joel Cherry with the M.O.H.

"But until the roads freeze up, we would just be risking damage to the roads until they're properly frozen."

Colder temperatures freeze and strengthen road structures allowing the ministry to permit additional weight on the highway network. Without sufficient freezing, the extra weights can damage pavement and the road structures beneath.
