The Entrepreneurship 30 class at Vanier Collegiate might have wrapped up business back in January (read that story here), but on Thursday, June 15 a number of students and their businesses were honored at the Saskatchewan Junior Achievement Hall of Fame and Awards banquet in Regina where many made the short-list of finalists for student awards.

The complete short-list of finalists included:
  • Kelsey Fessler for Environment Health and Safety Excellence
  • Tucker Beattie for Salesperson of the Year Award
  • Gwendoline Bauluck for Human Resources Management Award
  • Katie Mullen and Jade Bennett – Marketing Excellence Award
  • Marcus McCleod – Financial Management Award
  • Isabella Grajczyk – President of the Year
  • Kendall Bistretzan – President of the Year
  • Gwendoline Bauluck – Professional Leadership Award
  • Bryce Johnson – Professional Leadership Award
  • Yanic Fortier – Achiever of the Year
  • No Bother Baking – Product Design Award
  • Royal Tea – Company of the Year
The Professional Leadership Award was presented to Kendall Bistretzan.  She received a certificate along with an all-expense paid trip to attend the International Next Generation Leadership Conference that will be held in London, Ontario this summer, and is one of the two students representing Saskatchewan at the event.

The Production Excellence Award complete with a certificate and a $250 scholarship went to Kailee Couzens.

Derrick Frost received the IT Excellence Award, including a certificate of recognition and a $250 scholarship.

The Most Improved Company of the Year went to Vanier's "Royal Tea".

Kailee Couzens, recipient of the Production Excellence Award for her efforts with the company No Bother Baking  said the class was a valuable experience.

"Having to go into the setting of you're not just doing it for the grades, you're doing it for yourself, and you're doing it for charity because we donated our profits to Habitat for Humanity," Couzens explained.

She added that much of their marketing and labelling which got No Bother Baking short-listed for the Product Design Award, came by drawing on inspiration from Christmas colors and giving their product a "homey feeling".

Christa Lapointe with Vanier Collegiate was very grateful and she said that the ability to take the students to Regina for the awards night was made possible by the South Central Community Futures who sponsored the tickets for the event.
