It will be an afternoon of mixed emotions over at Peacock Collegiate today as friends, teachers and students both past and present prepare to say good-bye and pay tribute to Mr. Lyle Johnson.

After a teaching career spanning 42 years, 38 of them at Peacock, Johnson is finally saying farewell to the green and orange.

Beth Graas, fellow teacher at Peacock, is heading the Variety Show that will be held in his honour. "I thought it would be a really good tribute to him for his former students and present students to come and do some musical numbers or some theatre, favourite scenes from their play."

She says that a theme she's seen is how his influence has spread beyond the high school.  "I think the theme throughout this whole thing that I've been working on is that all of Mr. J's students are teaching in some regard," says Graas. "We've turned out a lot of fine arts students that are teachers now."

The show begins at 2pm in Peacock's Auditorium.
