The International Day of Pink was recognized at Sask Polytechnic in Moose Jaw.

The Positive Campus Committee, which has put on several events respecting inclusion, brought in Joe Wickenhauser from Moose Jaw Pride to talk about sensitivities surrounding the LGBT + community.

Selinda England of the committee said education was the key factor in bringing him in to speak.

“At Sask Polytech, we promote a diverse workplace, both for our staff and students,” England said. “We want to educate everyone regarding issues in the community and let students know this is a safe space for everyone.”

England said Wickenhauser is known throughout the province for his advocacy for Pride issues.

“Our campus also promotes the Pride parades within the province,” she said. “Last year, I participated in the Regina Pride parade, and Sask Polytech always has students and staff who march in the parade just to let everyone know this campus is a safe place for students.”

The committee has done other similar events, according to member Selinda England.

“We believe in diversity and inclusion issues,” said England. “We have events such as this, and last week we raised the flag for Transgender Awareness Week.”

There were pink cupcakes and cookies available for those who attended.
