A program that started in 2020, the Targeted Sector Support initiative from the provincial government is designed to help municipalities with building capacity, establishing and growing good governance practices and encourage cooperation between municipalities, both urban and rural.  This funding is provided through cost-shared grants, which are approved by the TSS Steering Committee and administered by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.

"We are pleased to support municipalities across the province through our innovative Targeted Sector Support program," Government Relations Minister Don McMorris said. "It is wonderful to see municipalities working together to advance projects that will serve their communities.”

In a release issued Thursday, the provincial government highlighted three grants. The first was for the RM of Frenchman Butte, which received $13,000 for municipal governance training for elected officials not only in the RM but from surrounding municipalities.

Another example highlight by the province was a $37,000 grant for the City of Meadow Lake as they conducted a regional fire and emergency services feasibility study with the RM of Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation. The third example was the town of Wilow Bunch receiving more than $14,000 for a combined asset management review and system update with the RM of Willow Bunch.
