The Canada Day long weekend is finally upon us.

As there are activities and events happening all around the province, officials would like to remind us to get there safely and do our due diligence prior to leaving our homes.

“Whether you’re planning a road trip to the lake or driving to visit friends, it’s a good idea to plan ahead by checking in with the highway hotline,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Lori Carr said.  “Our crews will be out working all weekend, so please drive carefully for your safety and theirs.”

Unfortunately, there have already been a few incidents on provincial highways and we're being reminded that safety should be a top priority when travelling near construction zones.

“We have recently had some close calls with drivers in the construction zones and were fortunate no one was seriously hurt,” HJR Asphalt CEO Josh Safronetz said.  “Our workers are vulnerable in these areas and we can’t stress enough how critical it is for drivers to slow down and pay attention to the posted signs and speed limits.”

Work is taking place just north of Moose Jaw on highway 2 as it was announced last year that the provincial government would be adding passing lanes to aid in traffic flow. That being said anyone entering or exiting the city from highway 2 will need to be vigilant when passing workers and equipment.

The following is a list of construction projects taking place around the province currently, provided by the government of Saskatchewan.

•             Highway 1 surfacing near Carmichael;

•             Highway 1 surfacing near McLean;
