This summer, kids will be allowed to head out to summer camps across the province. The announcement was made on Thursday that overnight summer camps will be included in Step 2 of the Re-Opening Roadmap, which takes effect on June 20th.

There are a number of guidelines that camps will need to follow if they elect to have overnight camping this year.

Before the camp starts, staff, volunteers and the campers should be screened for COVID-19. Testing is also recommended, and camp directors can contact the province about having antigen rapid testing to support the camps.

During the camp, it is recommended to create cohorts of eight or fewer campers who are similar in age, and those campers and staff who share a cabin should be considered part of the same household when it comes to masking and physical distancing. Masks must be worn, however, in all indoor public spaces.

Outdoor recreation spaces should be limited to one cohort at a time, with hand hygiene observed before, during and after activities for staff and campers. The sharing of items, such as balls, crafting supplies and others, between cohorts should be limited.

Meals should be taken outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces within cohorts, with physical distancing between the cohorts.

When the camp is finished, those who attended, staff and campers alike, should self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
