The Saskatchewan Health Authority released new data on Tuesday, showing that Saskatchewan is sitting in a better position to manage COVID-19.

The data shows a basic reproductive rate of 3.12. The reproductive rate is the average number of people a single COVID-19 positive person in Saskatchewan would infect with no interventions taken.

With the public health measure in place, Saskatchewan’s reproductive number is 0.7 as of April 25.

Using the new basic reproductive rate, the SHA has adjusted its planning scenarios in order to plan for the worst.

The adjustments show now an estimated 1,000 fewer hospital beds, 400 fewer ICU beds and 400 fewer ventilators as previously announced.

Preparation for field hospitals in Regina and Saskatoon will continue to allow the SHA to scale up if needed.
