After serving the community for over 40 years, Ron Halstead has decided to retire from his practice at Halstead Denture Clinic.

Halstead says he always knew what career he wanted to follow.

"It was my father's business that he started in 1963 and as a young kid growing up I would go in and help on Saturdays. So I knew that that was pretty much what I wanted to do. In 1972 when I graduated from highschool I went straight into the business. So that's where I get my 47 years of experience."

Halstead says that Moose Jaw has always been a great community and wouldn't dream of leaving.

"I've always said it's a great community to live in. It's a fairly small community but we've always had a very large patient base. I moved here in 1963 from Manitoba and I wouldn't want to go back. This is where we're at."

Mirroring his own path, Halstead's daughter Lynn also entered the industry early in life and will be taking over from her father.

"Lynn studied at NAT in Edmonton to get her degree and she's been practicing now with me for about the past fifteen years. It's very exciting [for her to be taking over]. We didn't know how it was all going to go down and then she came into the practice and enjoyed it too. So this is where she's decided to put her roots down. And you don't see many third-generation family-owned businesses so it's wonderful to know that she wanted to take over the practice."

The next steps for Halstead involve taking some time to do some of his favourite activities.

"My wife and I plan on doing some travelling. I really enjoy my ice-fishing in the winter so I'm sure I'll be spending some time out there."
