Saskatchewan’s largest and longest running Gaming Expo is returning to Moose Jaw this weekend.

The event has been going since 2010, and this year's event will feature all aspects of gaming including computers, classic and modern consoles, board games, and cards.

Kristian Sjoberg is the event organizer. The Gaming Expo is meant for casual and competitive gamers and for anyone who is looking to give gaming a shot.

"It gives an outlet for people who are normally sometimes more introverted to come out and be little bit social, but it's a safe environment for those people and they feel safe because they're around people who have the same interests, same hobbies, and it's just a fun fun weekend of fun and games."

The Moose Jaw Gaming Association is a not-for-profit organization and donates part of the proceeds to local charities.

"It's the reason we do it, for the charity. This year we're donating to the school systems. We're doing a literacy program with them and the Sasktel Pioneers are also partnering with us to do that as well. There's going to be probably our record donation this year. Last year we partnered with Hunger in Moose Jaw and we gave them $1,250 just raised from this fundraiser we do twice a year."

And for anyone looking to get into more competitive games, they will have an e-sports style tournament for people to take part in.

"We had a couple people last year come in and we had a tournament. There was about 15 people in the tournament and at the end of it they got a pot of $250 that they had won from playing in a Super Smash Brothers tournament. This is a small one, but e-sports can get as high as a million dollar pots.

This year’s Gaming Expo will be hosted at the St. Joseph’s Church Basement Hall. Admission to play is $30 and general entry or board game play is $15. The event starts off Friday night and runs through Sunday.
