From a four-way stop to a two-way and back again, all in the span of a week.

About two weeks ago City council announced it would be removing the four-way stop at the corner of Fairford St East and 4th Northeast and would put in a 2-way stop, having Fairford be the through street. Then just this last week it was announced that the intersection had been changed.

But two days later, it was a four-way stop again.

City manager Matt Noble said it was simply a matter of miscommunication.

"An employee, in good faith, acted to have the signs removed once receiving a memo from one of our managers that (the sign removal) would happen, but it shouldn't have happened as quickly as it did," Noble said. "We have some technical issues to address with respect to traffic volumes and administration with respect to authorities for removing these things."

Noble also said that the demolition activity at the old hospital site will affect how quickly the intersection changes with heavy equipment moving through the area.

"Because of the type of traffic that may exist there we want to make sure we're going to allow them to operate in a safe manner."

Demolition of the old hospital could begin in February or March, so it looks like the intersection will stay a four-way stop for at least a couple months.
