The 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic games have begun and with COVID-19 cases spiking within Japan's capital city, organizers have had to take extra precautions.

Olympic athletes are not required to have received a vaccine in order to participate in the Games, but testing regimens are in place, and spectators will not be in attendance.

Arron Dobrescu is originally from Moose Jaw and has lived in Japan for the last 18 years, teaching English. 

He says there isn't much excitement around the games this year as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in Toyko.
