The date has been announced for the much-anticipated public consultation process for the first batch of cast iron water main projects in Moose Jaw.

Tuesday, December 8th has been selected and three hours have been set aside, starting at 6pm at the Golden Nugget Centre.

The Saskatchewan Municipal board (SMB) is hosting the hearing, which will allow affected residents a chance to address the proposal by the City of Moose Jaw to use a Local Improvement Plan (LIP) to help cover the cost of water main replacement.

The LIP would see affected residents pay 30 per cent of the cost to replace the cast iron pipes in front of their property.

Under Saskatchewan's Local Improvements Act, municipalities must first apply to the province to see if a project meets the criteria to use a LIP for funding.

While the meetings are open to the public, SMB has not been able to tell us what's expected of presenters or how long presentations can be.

This is the first round of hearings for the Local Improvement Plan with hearings expected each time a batch of projects are announced.
